About AIBD Oklahoma
In
1974, a group of Building Designers from across the State met in Tulsa,
to determine the interest in establishing an organization, in Oklahoma,
to promote and develop the profession of Building Design. It was then
that the Oklahoma Institute of Building Design was organized. The primary
goals were to:
-
Contribute
to the health, welfare and safety of the public and to the advancement
and understanding of the profession.
-
Develop
and maintain high standards for applicants to membership, and
-
Maintain
high standards for the certification of building designers.
By
1981 Oklahoma Institute of Building Designer realized that to adequately
address the profession of Building Design it would be necessary to become
a part of a national movement. It was then the Oklahoma Institute of
Building Design affiliated with the American Institute of Building Design
and joined in the effort to provide accountability and credibility for
Building Designers nationwide.
In order to gain even more credibility for its members, in the early
1990's AIBD adopted a policy of Continuing Education Credits. Every Professional Member of AIBD is required to attend at least 8 hours of
Continuing Education each year.
Professional Members of AIBD who wish to become certified may take a certification test administered by the National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC). Upon successful completion of all portions of the NCBDC exam, the designer is granted the privilege of using the title "Certified Professional Building Designer" (CPBD).
